It's Giving
"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Proverbs 17:17
A sweet friend of mine by the name of Neil shared these words with me at church camp when we were in junior high school. If my memory has not yet failed me, it used to be one of his favorite bible verses. It has taken me about the last twenty years to realize the extent of what king Solomon was talking about when he so wisely penned them.
I do not believe for anything that the world has stopped loving.
I am sure if you ask, many people will tell you that we are no longer living in a loving, caring world. They think that because people are no longer running around San Franciso with flowers in their hair, or having parties that compare to Woodstock, that the world is now unlovable. Ok, so these are not the greatest examples, but you get my point. Believe it or not though, the amount of giving in the 70's, 80's and 90's, pales in comparison to what people are giving now. People are giving more time, money and energy than ever before. So, when people are struggling, everyone comes together and helps.
Case in point, my friend Kim, is so sweet. Every time I see her, she has a hug for me and a smile on her face. She is always stepping up to ask me if we need meals when I have bad days and that is a huge blessing for me. It's giving.
My friend Meri was diagnosed with breast cancer and on October 2nd had a double mastectomy. She was in the process of a remodel to her kitchen and bedroom when she was diagnosed with the cancer and like life with cancer at times, it came to a hault. So, Jenny H. Came up with a plan that was perfect. Some of us ladies from church gathered at Meri's house while she was at work and with the assistance of a professional painter(thanks Derrick), painted her kitchen and bedroom.
It's giving.
As a family, we have always been on the giving end of life. Happy to help out in any way that we can. Helping others is a huge part of us. It's giving.
"And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40

October 12th, our family, friends, church family, and community came together to help us. We gathered in Bettendorf for a benefit for me and my family. The day was overcast and rainy but we had a fantastic turn out. Katie and her friends did face painting. There was a bake sale with a huge amount of sweets handmade by the Davenport Central Marching Blue Devils. We had over 35 raffle baskets, silent auction items, walking tacos, and lots of lemonade and sweet iced tea!
There are so many things that happen in our lives that we are never prepared for, but Lamar and I believe that we are here on this earth to help out others as much as we are able too. We cannot ever repay the generosity that was bestowed upon us that day, but we continue everyday to pay it forward and reap the blessings and love that come from it all.
Together, we say thank you. Thank you for your generosity, your kindness & your love!!!

It's now time again for us to give back.

Her name is Angie Boynton and she is a beautiful, vibrant, mother of 2. She was struck down by Guillain-Barre syndrome. It is a serious disorder that occurs when the body's defense system mistakingly attacks part of the nervous system. It leads to nerve inflamation that causes muscle weakness. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first systems. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body. There is NO cure, but several treatments can ease symptoms & reduce the duration of the illness. (Mayo.org)
Angie has been in a hospital bed since she was taken into Genesis that monday morning in October. Everyday I pray for Angie and her family. Everyday Angie remains in my heart.
I am asking for everyone to come together for Angie and her family. There is going to be a benefit coming up for them in February 2015. There will be more information to come.
