The Absence of Color

From the time she could walk, she adored everything of color. When she was old enough to choose, we started letting her pick these huge, vibrant colors to paint and decorate her room. She'd not be too content for long with her color choice and would choose another and once again, my mom and I would paint it. Color can change so much.Color is everywhere in our life. Our yard is full of red, pink, yellow and orange flowers. Our house is full of color that reflects everything we are. Katie & I both adore pink in every shade it comes in. She loves color, but she doesn't see color. She's not colorblind, but she's always been blind to color because that is how she's been raised and taught by us. She believes whole heartedly that no one should be treated differently because of the color of their skin. She loves my cousins husband, Terrance, she doesn't love him any differently because he's African american, she loves him for his loving heart. Their beautiful children that are both black & white, they are not loved any less because of their skin color, they are our family. See they may look different on the outside but on the inside, they are the same as everyone else.....
How does education influence freedom, liberty, and
responsible citizenship in a culturally diverse society?
George Washington Carver once said, “Education is the key to unlock the golden door of
freedom."
The whole purpose of education is to become free . Juneteenth celebrates freedom, liberty, and, responsible citizenship in a culturally diverse society. Likewise, education also influences these three ideals in a culturally diverse society by all children having the freedom to become whatever they want to be, by all children having the liberty to an education, and by all children having the opportunity of being molded into responsible citizens.
“Freedom, then, is free choice: the control of one’s self." Education influences freedom in the fact that it empowers children to be themselves and embrace their personal beliefs. During the 1969 court case, Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, Justice Abe Fortas said that students in school are under the constitution and have rights that the state has to respect. In the landmark case students sued the Des Moines School District for taking away their freedom of expression and their own beliefs by not allowing them to wear black armbands to support a truce in the Vietnam War. This court case is an example that demonstrates that even school children are given the right to express their opinion as a United States citizen. My freedom as an individual permits me to be whatever I want to be, so I am going to become a teacher. By becoming a teacher, I will have the opportunity to influence young lives and promote tolerance and acceptance of everyone and their ideas. Intellectual freedom is defined as the human right to hold truths, ideas, opinions, and beliefs freely, without control to express such thoughts so that innovation and change can occur
for the benefit of humanity and society. Acquiring an education opens doors to many different opportunities and gives the student freedom to be themselves, embrace their beliefs, and be whatever they desire to be.

Education influences liberty in the simple, yet, extraordinary fact that everyone has
access to an education. No one is denied an education by law in the United States. Around the
world today, even in this civilized world, many other countries still do not allow women to
obtain an education. Before liberty and equality was granted to all United States citizens, many
people were denied some of their basic rights, the right to a free education, the right to vote, the
right to equal pay, and the right to be their own person. . Having the opportunity to get an
education is my liberty. As a girl, I am not subjected to sexism here in the United States;
everyone is created equal. Liberty is having the right and\or ability to do something given by the
government and in today's diverse society, at least in the US, no one is denied an education due
to their culture.
Education influences responsible citizenship and this is greatly shown through a child's academic learning. For example, at my school, students have the opportunity to join Environmental Club that encourages recycling, Key Club that offers community volunteer options, and Girls Learn, a group that sponsors a girls’ school in Pakistan. All of these opportunities offer ways to help others and our community. Today, a student's schedule helps them learn to get up, go to school, face responsibilities, get involved, and complete homework; having somewhere to be and things to do tends to keep kids out of trouble. Education teaches kids right from wrong. Rob Rhodes, the Georgia Appleseed’s director of legal affairs, reported that statistics show high school dropouts are more likely to be incarcerated than college graduates. Consequences for being tardy, missing school, and breaking school rules helps to create a responsible citizen. Schools play an important role in developing future citizens of our world.

Education is greatly influenced by freedom, liberty, and responsible citizenship through
the student’s right to attend school, the student's ability to choose their own paths, the, and the
student's opportunity to graduate from not only high school but college too. A review of Floyd
Cooper’s children’s book, Juneteenth for Mazie,a story told by a father to his daughter, points
out a few main parts of the story about Juneteenth. The father expresses that one part of Juneteenth was education.
Juneteenth for Mazie establishes the simple, but necessary point that, education was and forever will be an important part of Juneteenth.
Education and Juneteenth signify the freedom, liberty, and equality that the slaves received on June 19th, 1865 that are important today, and should always be remembered and celebrated for that reason.
This Thursday, in Des Moines, Iowa, Katie will be given an award for this paper she wrote on freedom in education. The basis of Juneteenth and its celebration that everyone, no matter what their color or status is in life, deserves every chance at education and a life that they can call their own!
