National Day of Prayer.....What does it mean to pray?

What does it mean to pray?
Looking back at my child hood and before I would lay my head on the pillow at night, I remember whispering little prayers to Jesus about how I was thankful for the current things that I had in my life: my friend Erin, my Barbie dolls, my house, my family, and other things that were so very important to me at the time and I knew that they were just as important to Jesus. Did I know as a child that Jesus was really listening to me? I couldn't see him in person, just in the picture that my grandma Elmore had of him with his long brown hair, wearing his white robe and his hands being outstretched. He was someone that I learned about every week in Sunday school from Miss Millie, but who was he really to me and did he hear everything that I prayed to him about? Yes!!
Prayer to me is communication with my heavenly father. He is my God, Jesus and Holy Spirit all in one and no, I have never seen him face to face but I know without any doubt that he is real and that he lives in heaven today.  He is the one that I go to when things are not going my way and I can scream, cry and get angry at because I don't see eye to eye with him. He is the one that when I am feeling blessed about my life, I can tell him thank you for everything that he has blessed me with. It took me a long time to realize that I do not have to have my head bowed, my eyes closed or be on my knees to communicate with my Jesus. He wants me wherever I am and he comes to me wherever I am. It is that easy! George Mueller once said about prayer:
"I live in the spirit of prayer. I pray as I walk about, when I lie down and when I rise up. And the answers are always coming. Thousands and tens of thousands of times have my prayers been answered. When once I am persuaded that a thing is right and for the glory of God, I go on praying for it until the answer comes.

Today is the 63rd annual National Day of prayer and I urge you to pray.

"For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you." Jeremiah 29:11-13
