A Man's bestfriend is not always his dog

In the spring of 2006, I went to the Scott County Humane society for the first and last time. I am not being truthful about it being the last time, but Lamar and Katie told me to swear that I never go back. I cannot help but see the cute faces of the dogs and want to bring them all home. Case in point, that day in April 2006, I came home with a dog. We had lost Nikki, Lamar's faithful companion in July 2005 and I thought that Sadie (Nikki's sister), was lonely. I walked through the door that day with every intention to look for a golden retriever but alas, they did not have any. I spoke with Pam who runs the shelter and she said that she would keep her eyes open for me. She also suggested that I could take a quick peek at the dogs that were currently up for adoption. I so should have said NO. I am just kidding, going into that shelter that day was rewarding. I went from face to sweet face and there she was. A 4 month old, Australian Collie, named Chloe. She had the cutest face and begged for me to take her home.
That day, we welcomed Chloe into our family. She has been such a sweet blessing to our lives and has helped us make special memories with her over the years. She is turning 9 this October and I cannot believe that we have had her for all those 9 years. In the meantime, Sadie has passed away and she has been an only dog for 2 years now. She is my girl, but when Lamar is here, she loves to be with her daddy! She stays outside with him when he is working in the yard or out in the shed, She chases his lures when he takes her fishing, she sits right by him at the dinner table, well, that is more for my benefit because I feed her. She is his faithful companion. Chloes is great, but when you ask him who his bestfriend is, he will say Bob!

Bob and Lamar met through our church at HBC. They were friends but they became really close after Bob had an accident last July and shattered his ankle. We are so thankful that after surgeries and therapy that he can walk again. It was a rough ride for him for quite a while. Lamar really admires and looks up to him for his strength and faithfulness.  As Lamar's wife, I could not have asked for anyone better to be in our lives. Bob and his amazing wife, Vicki, are not just friends, but family.

Bob is always there when Lamar needs him and he never hesitates to be there for us as a family too. There are many things that I cannot ever repay him for. When I got sick in May, he jumped right in and helped out. He was there for all of my surgeries, even staying in the hospital room with us and asking the doctors all of the questions that Lamar & I didnt ask. We always know that he is just a quick phone call away. We get to see him & Vic every week and I could never imagine our lives without them. I know that girls are usually the ones that are consumed with finding bestfriends to have in life, but Lamar and Bob have found a connection that far out weighs a regular friendship.
Thank you Bob, for everything that you do. You and Vicki mean so much to us and I am so blessed that Lamar calls you his BFF!
Love you & Vicki
